More about our mission and what we offer.

Job Description

Since 2011, we’ve had a clear mission: money without borders. Built by and for people who live global lives, we’re the fairest, easiest way to manage your money across borders.

We’re just at the beginning of our story and we’re growing at an incredible pace. We won’t stop until anyone, anywhere can send, spend and receive money wherever they are, whatever they’re doing. There’s still heaps to do and we can’t do it alone.

We’re looking for a Senior Compliance Specialist, ideally someone with relevant experience (for example working for a regulator, within a compliance team in a financial institution, or in consulting), or a keen interest in compliance with some foundations (for example, experience from Financial Crime). You will leverage your past experience to help shape group regulatory frameworks at Wise.

You will provide support to the Global Regulatory Compliance team on multiple projects. You are someone that has a can-do attitude and is keen to learn.

Based in London, you will work with compliance officers across the globe. You’ll help strengthen the team’s approach to building strong regulatory foundations and managing regulatory risks, as well as their governance and oversight. You are a pro at stakeholder engagement, and will be talking to Wisers across all our regions, and across many different functions.

Your mission:

  • Support the Group Compliance Frameworks and Policies team in its remit to ensure key frameworks are designed and embedded in line with industry good practice, and that Wise’s policies continue to support Wise’s mission.
  • Look after our policies and procedures and ensure they are up-to date, and relevant by working with relevant stakeholders to address any changes required.
  • Contribute to both operating, and enhancing Wise’s existing regulatory compliance processes to ensure we continue to meet regulatory requirements and expectations, and do so efficiently. Areas which you can expect to work on may include Anti-Bribery and Corruption, managing Conflicts of Interest, regulatory change management framework and projects, operational resilience, conduct, senior accountability, and fit and proper assessments.
  • Support on regulatory change-related projects which help gear our team and regional Compliance Officers for the future and set up successful processes for the long-term.
  • Coordinate and prepare meetings with our key stakeholders to update on progress and strengthen collaboration, prepare written updates, and support the team’s quarterly planning process by inputting trends identified, contributing to shaping the team’s way of working and strategy.
  • Work on ad hoc initiatives and regulatory deep dives based on business needs and emerging priorities, being comfortable with pivoting to new areas of focus, and a view to finding solutions to challenges that arrive.
  • Organise retrospective sessions to gather feedback and learnings that can be used to improve processes.
  • Take on and own new challenges that arise in any area of the compliance programme on a project basis. Take a problem-solving approach.
  • Adapt your focus on different compliance issues depending on growth plans and compliance needs.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of Wise’s business and get to know many teams across the company as you liaise with them to help them understand regulatory frameworks and bring together the information that is needed to maintain our licences and operations.

  • Help build best practice within regulatory compliance frameworks, governance and compliance risk management across the Wise Group and embed this across our teams in a meaningful way.

  • Support Wise’s expansion and growth plans by supporting processes which maintain our licence health, and foster productive relationships with our regulators.

A bit about you:

Our ideal candidate will be a great communicator with strong organisational skills. We are looking for a self-starting, driven individual, who wants to support Wise’s mission. More specifically, we’re looking for someone who can demonstrate they have these attributes:

  • Theory. You have regulatory experience (maybe you have a legal or analytical background) and/or a keen interest in compliance with some foundations.

  • Practice. You are a problem-solver. You have thought deeply about the Wise mission and how it intersects with compliance.

  • Passion. You get a kick out of improving current practices and processes. You have a can-do attitude and you love to collaborate with different teams of people across different regions.

  • Get the job done. You have a sense of urgency and an ability to work well under pressure, prioritising, taking responsibility and working to tight deadlines.

  • Communication. You’re a strong relationship builder across all levels of the business and externally. You lead by example and can demonstrate the Wise values in all your actions.

  • Development. You are looking for the next step in your career at Wise and you would like to grow within Core Compliance.

  • Travel. The role is London-based, but many of our teams are located across different office locations. You’ll be ready to travel to meet your objectives, if required.
