More about our mission and what we offer.
We are looking for a candidate ready to leverage their experience in supporting scale our Sanctions compliance program globally. Your primary focus will be to leverage expertise on OFAC and NY DFS 504 to ensure Wise globally is managing a best in class program- meeting our regulatory obligations, managing financial crime risk, and scaling controls to enable growth. This is an exciting, hands-on opportunity working directly with product managers, analysts and engineers to help scale our Sanctions program.
Your mission:
Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. We now need support to scale our Sanctions Program in a compliant and structured way that ensures US sanctions expectations are reflected across all of our markets. You will focus on driving forward the vision to address sanctions risk by reviewing and uplifting our controls to best support customers and our ever growing suite of products. To do this you will develop a deep knowledge of our sanctions controls to give confidence to your internal stakeholders and also our bank partners and regulators.
Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the Global Product, Compliance and Risk team, in the first line:
- Support ongoing compliance with our NY DFS 504 ensuring we have appropriate documentation, data lineage mapping and validation performed
- Support on the closure of sanctions issues across Wise by building new controls or enhancing existing controls working with our regional and core financial crime product and engineering teams to do so
- Enable growth by identifying ways to improve our controls and reduce unnecessary customer suspensions
- Input into new product development to ensure our sanctions controls are adequate
- Evaluate the effectiveness of our screening controls and identify opportunities for enhancement
- Offer effective advice to our first line operations and product teams on existing and forthcoming regulations, gaps, and risks and work with them to proactively address these
- Engage with bank partners and regulators as necessary to explain our Sanctions Program
- Support on the senior management reporting at local and global risk committees on the state of our sanctions program.
- Develop monitoring to identify and drive the remediation of thematic issues in our screening program
This role will give you the opportunity to:
- Grow your hands-on Fintech knowledge at full speed;
- Keep compliance right at the heart of the product development cycle, in a fast-moving environment;
- Be empowered to identify ‘regulatory problems’ and take a lead in the solution design and implementation;
About you:
- You have a background in Sanctions with specific experience in implementation of controls aligned to OFAC expectations
- You have experience scaling financial crime controls across a number of markets with particular experience in the UK, EU and US markets
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex regulatory frameworks and explain them clearly to stakeholders;
- Problem solving attitude, with the ability to use regulations together with data to drive business decisions;
- Experience in supporting a maturing anti-financial crime program- moving from a start up to bank standard
- Experience (or interest) in working in a fast-growing environment and working directly with product teams;
- Willing to travel, as Wise offices are located across different countries; and
- Legally authorized to work in the US
Some extra skills that would be great:
- Experience with Confluence, Jira, Risk and Controls software
- Experience working with global teams
- Prior experience driving NY DFS 504 certification for a global financial institution
