Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Regulatory Compliance Manager to join our growing Regulatory Oversight Compliance team in the Pacific region located in Sydney. This role will be working as part of a highly effective team in second line compliance (2LoD) reporting to the Head of Compliance Australia & New Zealand.

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting in the effective mitigation of regulatory compliance risks through the oversight and maintenance of adequate systems and controls. This position requires close partnership with our operational, finance, product, and engineering teams, with opportunities to present to senior stakeholders and shape the strategic direction of the regulatory compliance program.

Your mission: 

  • Provide advice and guidance to other teams and key stakeholders – regionally and globally, on Australian Financial Services License (AFSL) requirements as they relate to managed investment schemes and payments products, relevant consumer protection and conduct regulations (e.g. RG271, Design and Distribution Obligations etc. ) as well as related Wise policies and procedures
  • Provide adequate challenge to first line teams on the development of controls and provide approvals  on any  control changes , new products or features.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Regulatory Compliance oversight framework, including ongoing updates to relevant local Regulatory Compliance policies and procedures.
  • Represent regulatory compliance oversight both internally and externally to regulators, auditors and partners as required, showcasing Wise’s strong oversight compliance framework
  • Execute and enhance quarterly monitoring across key risk areas
  • Review and challenge the company’s Regulatory Compliance Risk Assessment, and prepare committee and board papers.
  • Proactively identifying key areas of risk and work with first line teams to in the development of mitigation plans
  • Maintain obligations documentation, local policies and local addendum of global policies, and oversight on state of compliance 
  • Support regulatory change management process by maintaining oversight of implementation of such development and undertake compliance assessment to establish applicability and make updates 
  • Perform breach assessments on incidents and complete regulatory reports as applicable 
  • Undertake strategic initiatives to enhance the compliance management framework as directed by the Head of Compliance Australia and New Zealand. 
  • Support the Pacific compliance team’s operation by enabling efficient and productive planning and ongoing program execution oversight, and actively identify and execute on areas of improvement to enable productivity and scalability. 

Qualifications

  • Previous Financial Regulation advisory role or experience in a Compliance/Legal department, Risk and Controls function or in a consultancy environment;  
  • Familiar with regulations and regulatory guides as they relate to AFSL and limited ADI (PPF) 
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex regulatory frameworks and apply them effectively;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Product Managers and Engineers and provide practical, actionable, and value added recommendations; 
  • Ability to project manage complex programs of work and engage with senior stakeholders
  • Strong presentation skills;
  • Problem solving attitude, with the ability to use regulations together with data to drive business decisions; 
  • Experience (or interest) in working in a fast-growing environment; 
  • Role may require occasional travel to Wise offices located in different countries.
  • Must have the legal right to work in Australia.
