Product Tax Assistant Manager

You’ll be part of a commercially-minded Tax team, helping to ensure our tax affairs are efficient, transparently compliant and slick so that our mission is sustainable.
Your mission
As the Product Tax Assistant Manager, you will ensure overall compliance with reporting, remediation and improve management related to information reporting tax. You will function as the subject matter expert for various stakeholders, advising on the reporting requirements and tax implications of new products, features, and business initiatives. Your core responsibilities will include:
Assist with the implementation and lead the ongoing management of tax information reporting and withholding processes within products, with a strong emphasis on US information tax reporting (e.g.1099-INT, 1099-B, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, 1099-NEC/MISC) and Canadian information tax reporting if applicable.
Overseeing and enhancing identity verification processes to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Managing vendor relationships and work to ensure accuracy of data received and submitted to tax authorities.
Effectively assess external customer and internally directed inquiries and work with the compliance contacts, customer response teams, and/or line of business associates to identify regulatory issues and help businesses resolve customer concerns.
Collaborating with engineering and product teams to design and test tax-related system functionalities, ensuring accurate data collection, withholding, and reporting capabilities.
Assist with the management and resolution of tax authority inquiry and audit (e.g., B Notices), particularly those related to information reporting, and implementing preventative measures.
Researching and monitoring changes in US and Canadian tax legislation. Identifying opportunities for process improvements and automation in product tax operations.
Assisting US indirect tax compliance across all relevant states, including monitoring nexus/taxability with new state registration and ensuring accurate and timely filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns.
About you
As we continue to scale at speed, this role will inevitably evolve over time, so you’ll need to be proactive, independent and excited at the prospect of solving unfamiliar problems.
Relevant practical experience in tax in a professional services firm or in-house environment)
Experience in tax regulations and guidance relating to North American information reporting
Independent self-starter with good communication skills (we are a global organisation with offices around the world so remote communication is key)
Drive and energy to foster impactful relationships throughout Wise
Some extra skills that would be great
AML/KYC experience preferred
Proven experience using data to inform decision making
Experience working in or for technology and/or financial services businesses
Ability to work and communicate well with various levels of stakeholder
Strong project management skills
