Job Description

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Your mission is to shape the Product Compliance & Risk Safeguarding Program, for Wise to offer its services better and faster to many more Customers. 

This is a first line of defence hands-on role, embedded in the Treasury Product Squad. 

You will be leading and growing the Safeguarding Product Compliance and Risk program, owning projects and making decisions as follow: 

  • Interpret and translate regulatory requirements, for Product and Engineering teams to seamlessly build safeguarding controls when launching new products 

  • Take a lead in coordinate all the Regional PC&R Teams globally to identify regulatory opportunities when interpretation and guidance can allow for controls improvement   

  • Take the lead in project manage safeguarding and clients assets regulatory changes, clearly translating regulatory requirements for product managers and engineers to execute on, while ensuring timely delivery   

  • Stay ahead of the safeguarding and client custody global regulatory compliance trends and the Regulators’ agendas, as they impact the expectations on our payments and investment frameworks 

  • Identify when local regulatory requirements can be executed by leveraging existing global controls and when unique requirements need prioritisation, optimising for utilisation of existing controls where possible

  • Define safeguarding global risk metrics and collaborate with regional colleagues to formulate market specific ones where needed, collaborate on reporting in committees and governance forums (incl. by managing internal risk tooling)  

  • Take part in industry associations initiatives where regulatory changes and best practices are discussed, and actively represent Wise in engaging with legislative and regulatory consultations

  • Keep Compliance right at the heart of the product and engineering development cycle, in a fast-moving environment 

  • Be empowered to identify regulatory and compliance problems or opportunities and take a lead in execution 

 


Qualifications

About you: 

  • You have the ability to interpret primary and secondary legislation relating to safeguarding and client custody obligations in multiple jurisdictions, including the UK 

  • You have a deep working knowledge of safeguarding and client custody Payments and Financial Services Regulations (i.e. you are the Compliance advisory lead/specialist for safeguarding/treasury function or a Senior Consultant on safeguarding/client assets, a Regulatory Lawyer with hands on experience in EMI safeguarding) 

  • You have been leading major projects where you highly influenced decision making (product launches, remediations, audits) by going into the details of the problems 

  • You deeply understand the Regulator’s expectations around safeguarding/client assets in one or more relevant Jurisdiction, by having presented and interacted with the Regulator directly (i.e. FCA direct experience)  

  • You are used to report and explain complex regulatory expectations to senior stakeholders and C-levels 

  • You have experience building frame-works for others to operate within.
