The Team You’ll Be Working With: Customer Activation
At Wise, we’re on a mission to make financial services faster, simpler, and more accessible for everyone. Our team plays a critical role in this mission by focusing on new customers to achieve their goals why they signed up to Wise. We analyze what steps they find problematic for each currency route and craft seamless flows that guide and enable them to succeed in their cross-currency actions alone without help. What Does Our Team Look Like?
We’re a cross-functional team of backend, frontend, iOS, and Android engineers, working hand-in-hand with a Product Manager, Analyst, and Designer. Together, we deliver seamless, impactful solutions across all Wise platforms. Collaboration is at the heart of what we do — we value ownership, knowledge sharing, and a commitment to building stable, scalable systems while embracing fast-paced learning and iteration.
What Do We Expect From You?
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be instrumental in building and maintaining robust and scalable backend systems. You’ll directly influence our team’s roadmap that aim to improve key features of Wise, among others the Send, Add money, Pay-in flows and Money tracker as well as the LLM based help assistant we are building. You get the responsibility to own your projects: coordinate engineers and drive from ideation to finish and make a real impact. It involves cross team collaboration with various stakeholders and regional teams who are experts of their customers and own local solutions.
We're looking for a proactive individual with a strong foundation in backend technologies, a passion for writing clean and efficient code, and a desire to learn and grow within a supportive environment.
Qualifications
What does it take:
You have 6+ years of experience with Java or Kotlin, experience with Spring framework and microservice best practices
A strong product mindset, you prioritise work with the customers in mind and make data-driven decisions
Sense of ownership and great communication skills to drive projects across teams
You believe in and follow best coding practices, code reviews and open feedback
You enjoy writing testable code and believe in Test Driven Development
Experience working with relational databases, query optimisation and designing schemas
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Distributed and Concurrent Systems
Hands on knowledge of system integration patterns
