Job Description

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join our Resilience Engineering team. You'll work on building the foundational, self-service tooling that powers Wise's reliability, focusing on three key domains: Incident Management, Chaos Engineering, and Reliability Monitoring.

You'll be building products for over 100 engineering teams, acting as a product owner for our internal reliability platform. You will collaborate across all of engineering to embed a culture of reliability, automate operational toil, and make it easy for every engineer to build and test for availability.

If you have a platform or product engineering background and are passionate about making a broad impact, you’ll thrive here - your ability to influence, collaborate, and drive best practices will be key to enabling Wise’s mission of money without borders.

How we work

We believe in automation-first, programmatic solutions, and reusable design. Our team steps back to see the big picture, but also rolls up our sleeves to deliver robust, scalable systems. We value holistic thinking, but also the ability to execute and iterate quickly, drawing on the collective strengths of Wise engineering.

As Wise grows, so do the expectations for reliability. We continuously iterate on our services, with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use. We're looking for an engineer who can analyse complex requirements and deliver simple, effective solutions - helping our teams achieve our mission with speed, confidence, and a culture of continuous improvement.

What will you be working on?

This is a role with real impact and plenty of room for creativity, where you'll help solve important challenges at scale. This involves:

  • Evolving our incident management platform. You'll design and develop practical, self-service tools - using AI and LLMs where it makes sense - to help over 2000 technical and non-technical colleagues respond to incidents faster and with less stress.

  • Leading our Chaos Engineering practice. You'll build foundational tooling for running safe experiments to proactively find weaknesses before they impact customers. You'll also own our disaster recovery testing and Game Days to ensure we're always prepared.

  • Defining and drive the future of availability at Wise. You'll own the tooling that helps teams define and track Reliability Service Level Objectives (SLOs), giving them clear, actionable data on system health. Your work will be central to how we think about Meaningful Availability for our customers.

What do you need?

We know that great engineers can come from a variety of backgrounds. If you have some of the skills below and are excited to learn, we'd love to hear from you!

  • Solid software engineering experience in any language (we mainly use Python and Java, but we care more about engineering principles).

  • A passion for building foundational, self-service tooling that makes life easier for other engineers.

  • An interest in reliability principles like incident management, SLOs, and proactive testing (like Chaos Engineering).

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) and containerised environments.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence and drive change across many teams.
