Job Description
Join our Europe & UK Local team and be at the forefront of tailoring Wise for our diverse markets! You'll be directly impacting how millions pay by building innovative features like our recent Open Banking integration, while also streamlining our systems through impactful architectural changes and expanding payment options across Europe. We're an agile, fast-paced team that lives and breathes data, constantly seeking customer and business feedback to drive our decisions and deliver in rapid sprints. The Engineering Team at Wise is central to what has made the business successful. Having product-focused and forward-thinking engineers has allowed Wise to cater to the needs of customers unlike any other business. They have built a world-leading platform and product, but there is still more to do.
We're seeking someone with solid professional experience in Java and Spring Boot, bringing expertise and exceptional communication skills to thrive in our dynamic environment where requirements aren't always crystal clear.
You'll be confident and effective within our high-velocity team. Bonus points if you have a background in fintech, experience with customer interviews or A/B testing, exposure to Product Management, or comfort with data tools like Superset or Grafana.
You won’t be boxed in and will be free to work on our current and new products. We’ll help you to grow, and have the ability to shape our products — you’ll love to figure things out on your own.
Qualifications
As a backend developer in our innovative Regional Expansion team you will be instrumental in building the APIs that power our exciting product journeys and directly impact user experience. You'll actively participate in testing new features to understand customer response, take ownership of and support critical microservices while contributing to our overall architectural vision, and collaborate closely with Product Managers to shape and improve user journeys.
This is an exciting opportunity for you will gain valuable insights into the product by monitoring our systems through dashboards and alerting, all within a modern tech stack featuring Java, Spring Boot, SQL Databases, AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Gradle, allowing you to directly contribute to building something truly exceptional.

You will have:
Proven professional experience with Java development.
Strong proficiency in building applications using Spring Boot.
Solid understanding and practical experience with SQL Databases.
Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform.
Experience deploying and managing applications using Kubernetes.
Familiarity with event streaming platforms, specifically Kafka.
Experience using Gradle as a build automation tool.
