Job Description

We are working on a listing on the US stock exchange. You will be responsible for driving the accounting workstreams involved in this complex and critical undertaking, ensuring timely and successful completion. This role requires a US GAAP experienced, organised, proactive, and detail-oriented individual with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

We’re looking for a SENIOR TECHNICAL ACCOUNTANT KNOWLEDGABLE OF US GAAP to join us

As a Senior Technical Accounting Manager in the Finance team, you will contribute to our mission by ensuring the accounting for our new products and services in the financial systems is accurate and complete and in accordance with US GAAP to meet our reporting needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of accounting under US GAAP: You will be responsible for understanding the why and how of different accounting areas. This includes documenting accounting position papers under US GAAP and explaining to Finance stakeholders, diverse teams across Wise as well as external auditors the accounting for these.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to embed accounting into the business - not just the books: You will collaborate with different teams in Finance to ensure correct application of US GAAP and that processes and accounting policies are updated to reflect it.

  • Design scalable processes and systems to support rapid growth and potential future listing requirements on a US stock exchange: You are taking ownership for the management of several high-stakes financial workstreams such as IFRS to US GAAP conversion, reporting currency change from GBP to USD, and SOX controls uplift.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Own your own path to success – You’ll have a high level of autonomy and responsibility.

  • Share Your deep accounting knowledge in US GAAP with wider Finance teams.

  • Work in a team – You’ll have an opportunity to work together with like-minded, highly experienced and results oriented people.

  • Inspire teams with your ideas, strategy, knowledge and self-starting attitude.

  • Grow with the role – You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills as the business and Finance function grows in complexity.

The experience, background and competencies needed to succeed in this role:

  • Theory – strong US GAAP knowledge. It would be beneficial, if you have a professional finance qualification such as the ACA, ACCA, CPA or equivalent.

  • Experience with IPO processes and stock exchange listings (US preferred).

  • Practice – You have prior experience (5+ years) as a Senior Technical Accountant, Senior Accounting Adviser or Senior Audit Manager. You have managed accounting projects and demonstrated resilience to break through and overcome challenges.

  • Controls – You have prior experience in the SOX controls framework and have improved accounting processes in light of the SOX requirements.

  • Ownership – You work independently, assume responsibility and make your own judgements. Be prepared to take ownership over complex new areas and solve problems with minimal guidance.

  • Love getting things done – You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves and take responsibility to do whatever needs doing to solve problems.

  • Collaborative and influencing skills – You work well in an international team environment, and know how to have an impact through others. You have partnered with internal and external stakeholders and have strong communication skills.

  • Development – You are keen to learn and develop your knowledge of how a FinTech and fast growing scale-up operates.

  • Travel – You’re happy to travel on a quarterly basis internationally to other Wise offices (e.g. Tallinn) or for team offsites to work closely with Your stakeholders.
