Job Description

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Database Platform team.

The Database Platform team is a software engineering team that has the mission to provide a unified, self-service interface, and API-driven control plane that enhances our cloud hosted database systems, ensuring each technology is seamlessly integrated within our platform.

The Database Platform team works closely with the Database Reliability Engineering team, and collectively these teams are responsible for our operational database storage solutions, including MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MongoDB & Redis, supporting operations at the petabyte scale with billions of queries processed daily.

As an Engineering Manager, you will collaborate closely with Engineers, Product Managers and Leads, representing the team within the wider Data Squad, Platform Tribe and Wise organisation. You will be responsible for the growth and well-being of the team, coaching and mentoring a talented group of engineers.  You will own the technical roadmap, strategic direction, and will lead the team to deliver complex software projects.

How we work

We operate on a strong belief in automation, programmatic implementation, and reusable design. We’re looking for people who can step back and think holistically about the ecosystem, but also follow through and help implement the design; drawing on the resources across the rest of the platform tribe.

As we continue to develop the database platform. We need to sustain this growth by continuously iterating on the services we run, with a focus on availability, security, and ease of use. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager with relevant experience who can understand complex requirements and deliver simple solutions to help our teams achieve our mission with speed and confidence.
