The growth of Wise Platform: Meet Lauren Langbridge

Posting date: 18/11/24

We sat down with Lauren Langbridge, Commercial Director at Wise Platform, to hear about her incredible career journey and what inspired her to join Wise. 🚀

What inspired you to join Wise Platform, and what aspects of the company stood out to you the most?

I’ve been in the payments industry for over 11 years, and I’ve seen firsthand how Wise has grown from a disruptive startup into a household name. From the outset, I was drawn to Wise’s bold mission to make money borderless, and I admired their ability to bring transparency and fairness to a traditionally opaque industry.

Joining Wise Platform has been an exciting opportunity to contribute to its mission, especially as we take the infrastructure that's made Wise so successful and provide that to large enterprises and banks so that they can offer exceptional payments experiences to their customers. It’s inspiring to work within a team that has that “startup energy” but also the resources, brand strength, and support of a global leader in fintech.

"Joining now means you get to be part of Wise Platform’s journey as we bring our consumer success into the enterprise space, shaping solutions for some of the biggest names in banking and fintech.

Why do you believe now is the perfect time to be part of Wise Platform’s growth and journey?

The shift to Wise Platform marks a pivotal moment. Wise has already revolutionised international payments for individuals and small businesses, and now we’re taking that value to banks, fintechs and large businesses. This transition from consumer to enterprise provider is not only an exciting evolution for the company but a vital opportunity in the payments industry as organisations prioritise transparency and customer-centric solutions.

Today, Wise Platform is at the forefront of that transformation, and joining now means being part of a growth journey with enormous potential to redefine how big players in finance operate on a global scale.

How does a Commercial Director role in Wise Platform differ from other organisations you’ve worked in previously?

In my experience, commercial roles in established organisations often come with rigid structures, but at Wise Platform, we have the agility of a startup combined with the strength of an established brand. Here, I’m encouraged to think creatively and to work with a high degree of autonomy.

Wise Platform’s focus on building genuine partnerships that align with our mission means that my team is not targeted or incentivised to just close deals—but to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across Sales, Solution Architects, Product and Compliance to create solutions that make a real impact for our partners and their customers. This dynamic environment allows for meaningful, mission-driven work that I find incredibly motivating.

What aspects of Wise’s culture and mission do you think set it apart from other organisations?

At Wise, our culture is grounded in transparency, collaboration and a customer-first mindset - and that mission-driven approach is woven into every aspect of the organisation. We believe sending money should be instant, convenient and free (or low cost). We are helping make this a reality by working closely with governments, international bodies and industry to shape the rules and underlying infrastructure for international payments. Through our recent advocacy work, the EU and Canada have updated their regulatory frameworks to encourage payments modernisation. The team is deeply committed to making financial services fairer and more accessible, and that focus on impact is present in everything we do.

At Wise, we’re encouraged to challenge the status quo and to think big, and everyone, regardless of role, is empowered to contribute to our shared mission. This focus on transparency and openness creates a collaborative environment that truly sets Wise apart from other organisations in the payments industry.

We believe in a culture of participation—one where more voices are heard and more perspectives shape our decisions. Teams share their plans quarterly, inviting feedback and input from across the organisation to ensure we're all aligned and working towards the same goals.

What would you say to someone with a similar background who is considering a move to Wise Platform?

If you’re passionate about fintech and want to make a tangible impact, Wise Platform offers an unmatched opportunity to be part of the team shaping the future of the global payments infrastructure for banks and financial institutions. What’s more, you get to be part of a culture that values transparency, champions innovation and empowers you to challenge the status quo.
