Job Description

We are looking for a candidate with Belgian and/or European experience in tackling Financial Crime risks, eager to bring their expertise to a dynamic fintech environment. This is a senior and highly influential role, essential for maintaining our growth, and trust with regulators.

This is an exciting, hands-on role working directly with product managers, analysts, and engineers to take our European financial crime program to the next level.

This role sits within Wise’ Regional EU Product Compliance and Risk team, part of the wider (1LoD) Product organisation.

Your mission:

Wise has already pioneered new ways for people to transfer money across borders and currencies. Our customers can also manage their hard-earned money with the World’s first platform to offer true international multi-currency accounts.

Your mission is to lead the EU FinCrime Product Compliance and Risk team to scale and enhance how Wise manages, monitors, and identifies improvements for the AML/CTF risk profile of its licensed entities and branches in Europe, while maintaining a customer-centric approach.

Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the EU Product Compliance and Risk team, in the first line:

Team Leadership & Strategic Steering

  • Lead the EU FinCrime Product Compliance and Risk Team setting priorities and ensuring alignment across key stakeholders (Global and Regional Product and Product Compliance Teams, EU Compliance Oversight team, and Leadership)
  • Oversee and steer solution design and implementation for identified FinCrime problem areas, or improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure FinCrime issues are correctly prioritized, resolved, and followed up on until closure.
  • Provide advice to product teams to guide them effectively design  resolving issues and developing new features.

Framework Ownership & Oversight

  • Steer the development of the 1LoD FinCrime Risk Monitoring Framework for Wise Europe. Tailored to Wise’s products, customer segments, and EEA market presence.

  • Oversee and initiate root cause analyses on risk and efficiency trends, and recommend control or efficiency improvements, ensuring their implementation.

Regulatory- External Party Engagement

  • Present monitoring outcomes and updates to relevant committees on both Wise EU and group level, including executive management, the regulator, and the Board, as appropriate.

  • Represent Wise and address queries from third parties (such as regulators or banking partners) regarding Wise’s FinCrime framework, ensuring high-quality responses.

  • Tracking FinCrime activities at the Wise group level, such as AML/CTF control developments, and ensuring their appropriateness for the EU licenses.

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Steer the growth and professional capabilities of the FinCrime Product Compliance teams across Europe.

  • Embed FinCrime compliance directly into the product development lifecycle, ensuring risk management is central to our fast-moving innovation.

  • Be fully empowered to identify FinCrime challenges, drive root cause analysis, and lead the solution design and implementation end-to-end.

About you:

  • Strong knowledge of Belgian and/or European AML/CTF regulations (AMLD, EBA Guidelines) and NBB guidance.

  • Experience in collaborating Product Managers, Engineers, and Operational teams, providing practical recommendations.

  • Excellent communication, project coordination, and management skills.

  • Ability to think qualitatively and draw conclusions by leveraging data.

  • Problem-solving mindset, with experience (or strong interest) in working in a fast-paced, growing environment and directly with product teams.

  • Willingness to travel, as Wise offices are located across multiple countries.

  • Legally authorized to work in the EU (Belgium).

Great extra skills:

  • Team management experience.

  • Previous experience in engaging with EU regulators on AML/CTF topics

  • Able to speak French or Dutch.
