Job Description

The newly established Banking Operations team is instrumental in ensuring Wise delivers outstanding service and protects customer money through excellence in banking operations. We act as a crucial bridge between Payment Operations, Banking, Product, and our global banking partners. Our mission is to proactively manage partner-related risks, reduce partner costs, and support business growth. We elevate partner bank performance and hold them accountable to Wise's ambitious goals, ensuring our payment ecosystem is cost-effective, low-risk, and scalable.

This is a unique opportunity to build the future of banking operations at Wise from the ground up, directly impacting customer experience and empowering teams through collaborative change. Min fees. Max ease. Full speed.

As a Banking Operations Manager, you'll be a pivotal individual contributor driving the operational success and strategic resilience of Wise. You'll own critical operational domains, manage key banking partner relationships, provide data-driven strategic insights, and lead complex initiatives to optimize our global payment ecosystem. You'll thrive in a dynamic environment where you help build clarity, structure, and a "fire-proofed" infrastructure for our money movement.

Here’s how you’ll be contributing to the Banking Operations team:

  • Cultivate Strategic Partner Relationships: Build and nurture strong, collaborative relationships with our global banking partners. You'll act as a primary liaison, managing Service Level Agreements (SLAs), driving partner accountability, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high service quality.
  • Operational Excellence & Incident Root-Cause: Lead efforts to identify opportunities for significant operational change. You will act as a core member of the bank partner incident management team, not just resolving disruptions but driving deep-dive post-mortems to hold partners accountable for long-term technical fixes.
  • Proactively Manage Partner Risk & KRIs: You will lead the effort to identify, define, and monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for our banking partners. You’ll be responsible for identifying systemic risks—whether technical, financial, or operational—and implementing mitigation strategies before they impact our customers or our P&L.
  • Deliver Data-Driven Insights: Establish, define, and track key operational KPIs and metrics related to banking partner performance. You'll design reporting frameworks and generate strategic insights that inform critical company decisions and guide our overall banking strategy.
  • Drive Financial Transparency & Cost Recovery: You will lead deep-dive fee reconciliation exercises and audit partner invoices against commercial contracts. You’ll identify overbilling or hidden costs, providing the data-backed evidence needed for our Banking teams to negotiate waivers and cost savings.
  • Empower & Connect Internal Teams: Develop best practices, implement training programs, and share crucial knowledge with Regional Payment Operations teams. You'll help them enhance problem-solving, boost operational efficiency, and foster stronger cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

  • You are placed in Tallinn, and have a right to work here. We won't be able to support with visa nor relocation for this role.
  • You have at least 5 years of in-depth knowledge of banking systems, payment operations, risk management, or partner management in a fast-paced environment.
  • You speak "Risk & Data": You don’t just "pull data"—you are an investigative problem solver. You can spot a trend in a dashboard, form a hypothesis about a partner's technical failure, and build a compelling, evidence-based case to drive a fix.
  • You are an influencer: You excel at building strong relationships with external partners and internal stakeholders (Banking, Product, Engineering, Treasury). You are a straight-up, clear, and honest communicator who can persuade others and hold them accountable.
  • You thrive in ambiguity: You’re a self-starter who drives to make things happen. You’re comfortable taking charge in difficult situations—like a partner outage—and delivering impactful projects that move us from reactive to proactive.
  • You have an "Audit-Ready" mindset: You understand the importance of controls and documentation, ensuring that our partner relationships meet global regulatory and internal risk standards.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Additional language skills: Fluency in Japanese or Spanish is a significant plus, as we manage diverse global banking corridors.
  • Experience with formal contract negotiation or managing the commercial/liability aspects of a B2B relationship.
  • Experience with SQL or advanced data visualization.
  • Experience in Treasury Operations or Financial Risk, specifically understanding how bank performance impacts liquidity and safeguarding.
  • Experience working in a global, cross-functional environment where you had to influence technical and commercial roadmaps.

Sounds like the next step for you? Apply latest by 6th of May EOD by submitting your CV in English, and by answering application questions.
