From Customer to Product Lead: Pablo Suarez
"I wanted to be a part of a company that was making areal difference, and I realised that’s exactly the impact Wise was having on my own life."
Pablo Suarez (He/Him)
Product Lead (LATAM MEA)
Tell us about your journey before joining Wise. What drew you to apply to Wise?
I started my career in finance in Argentina, where I’m from, but it was my move to Spain that sparked my interest with Wise. As an expat, I immediately became frustrated by the friction and high costs of sending money home through traditional banks.
I tried Wise to send money from Spain to Argentina and quickly became a loyal customer: it was cheaper, faster, and far more convenient than the alternatives. For years, I used Wise and eventually, I wanted to make a bigger impact and bring my European banking professional experience back to my home region. This is where Wise’s mission resonated. I wanted to be a part of a company that was making a real difference, and I realised that’s exactly the impact Wise was having on my own life.
Fast forward to now and I’m leading LATAM (Latin America) and MEA (Middle East & Africa) Product, still using Wise as my main account in the UK, and it really feels like a full circle moment.
What does it mean to work in Product at Wise?
Working in Product at Wise means owning the customer experience from end to end. We don’t just build interfaces; we build the logic behind onboarding, the mechanics of payment flows, and how support shows up when customers need help. Our goal is simple: remove friction and make people’s financial lives convenient and at a more affordable cost. That principle guides what we build and how we decide what improvements to focus on. Even as a global, public company, we're still as product-led and customer-driven as we were 15 years ago.
What would surprise someone about working in Product?
How fast‑paced and hands‑on it is. We value action and delivery. Every person can make a measurable impact from day one. Our culture within the Product function is deliberately scientific: start from first principles, quantify trade-offs, test assumptions, and avoid anchoring on historical decisions. You’ll get asked “why” a lot. This isn’t to slow you down, but to sharpen thinking and expose the complexity of the domain you’re working on.
As Product Managers, we hold each other accountable. We are expected to manage complexity by breaking problems into clear, solvable chunks. That often means diving deep into regulations and market nuances, understanding how changes ripple through the system, and turning that insight into simpler, better customer experiences.
From very early on, you get real ownership and the ability to influence decisions, regardless of seniority. We also take pride in our squad and tribe based set up, which is what makes working at Wise really special. Leaders appreciate being challenged and learn about how things work in other teams. We believe that the people who are closest to the problem are the ones with the product context, and are best placed to make the overall decisions.
What are some of the exciting technical challenges that those in Product get to tackle?
A standout example was our launch in Brazil and the direct participation of the Pix payment scheme. Because regulators required a synchronised rollout, we had to deliver a massive suite of capabilities simultaneously—QR payments, instant transfers, and hyper-local compliance flows.
This required coordinating multiple teams across ten different product areas over the course of a year with a one week execution window. Balancing that level of local complexity within our global scale, while ensuring zero downtime for existing users–is exactly the kind of challenge that makes Product at Wise so unique.
What advice would you give someone applying for a Product role at Wise?
Focus on the "why." We look for people who are naturally curious and take the time to understand the mechanics behind our product choices. We love hearing about how you ship, how you measure impact, and how you learn from failure.
Wise is a unique place to build your career, and you’ll thrive if you bring a bit of humility and a bias for action. If you’re passionate about solving complex problems at scale and want to see the direct impact of your work on millions of people and businesses, you should apply.
